How Does Zepbound Work? Zepbound Mechanism of Action

How Does Zepbound Work? Zepbound Mechanism of Action

Zepbound is a prescription medication designed to help people lose weight, if they are overweight or obese.

It works similarly to other medications in the same class, including Semaglutide (Wegovy, Ozempic, Rybelsus).

Before you consider starting on a medication, it’s important to know how it will work in your body. Below, we will cover what Zepbound does after you use it, how it aids in weight loss, and if it works better than other similar medications.

What does Zepbound do in the body?

When Zepbound is injected into your body, it mimics 2 naturally-occurring hormones. These two hormones are GLP-1 and GIP.  Without Zepbound or similar medications, these hormones are usually naturally triggered to release from your intestines after you eat.

It then proceeds to stimulate the GLP-1 and GIP receptors that your body already has. This causes the receptors to trigger all the usual responses they always have when stimulated. They can’t tell the difference between Zepbound and real GLP-1 or GIP hormones.

These triggered responses have to do with insulin release, blood sugar balance, how fast your food digests, and brain signals of fullness.

How does Zepbound help you lose weight?

Now that you know that Zepbound is mimicking these hormones in your body and triggering their usual receptors – what does this actually mean for how you will feel and why this helps you lose weight?

Insulin is a big part of the picture here. Healthy and normal insulin release that can be sensed by your cells helps to pull glucose from your food out of your blood when you need it. If your insulin release, blood sugar, and insulin sensitivity are out of whack, it signals that diabetes progression may be occurring, and it can make it harder to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight. Zepbound can help with healthy insulin release and insulin sensitivity.

The next part of the puzzle is the slowed progression of food through the gastrointestinal tract. Zepbound can help slow how fast food moves from the stomach through the rest of the intestines. This gives you a feeling of fullness for longer, even if you ate your usual portion of food. Ultimately, this leaves you feeling more satiated on fewer total calories – helping you lose weight.

Finally, it’s been found that Zepbound may have some effect on the brain as well. Working on the parts of the brain that deal with cravings. This may mean that your usual food cravings may feel less intense or be gone altogether. For some people, resisting these cravings can be a great way to help them lose weight.

Does Zepbound work better than Wegovy?

There is some information that Zepbound may work a little better than Wegovy for weight loss (a medication in the same class). Zepbound mimics both the GLP-1 and GIP hormones to help suppress appetite, regulate insulin, and help you lose weight. On the other hand, Wegovy and other medications that contain Semaglutide, are thought to only mimic the GLP-1 hormone. It’s thought that this mimicking of two hormones by Zepbound may ultimately lead to better weight loss results.

However, both Tirzepatide medications (Zepbound) and Semaglutide medications (Wegovy) can have significant positive effects on weight loss.
