Can Eyemuse Help with Blue Light Damage and Eye Strain?

Can Eyemuse Help with Blue Light Damage and Eye Strain?

In this day and age, we’re all looking at our screens a little too much, opening us up to potential blue light damage and eye strain. Sound familiar? Let’s discuss the effects of blue light and how to mitigate your exposure, specifically with Eyemuse.

What is blue light?

Blue light is emitted naturally by the sun along with artificial sources such as phones, computer screens, and LED TVs (1).  It falls on the visible light spectrum, which refers to the types of light that we can see with the human eye.  Approximately a third of all light visible to the naked eye is blue light.

How can blue light damage your eyes?

Prolonged exposure to blue light has been linked to eyestrain and disruption of the body’s circadian rhythms.  When looking at a screen, individuals are less likely to blink.  This in turn causes eye strain, dry eye, blurred vision, headaches, neck pain, and shoulder pain - also referred to as Computer Vision Syndrome or Digital Eye Strain.  Experts estimate that more than half of the population is affected by this (1).

Additionally, blue light disrupts circadian rhythms, making it harder to fall asleep, particularly when exposed late at night (2). Excessive blue light can harm both eye health and sleep patterns.

Finally, the cumulative effects of blue light may lead to or worsen conditions such as cataracts and macular degeneration.

How to avoid excess blue light exposure?

Thankfully, there are plenty of ways through which you can minimize your exposure to blue light. Creating some simple lifestyle habits to lessen your intake can do wonders for your eye strain symptoms.

Tips to help limit blue light exposure include:

  • Minimizing screen time. Reducing the frequency and amount of time on a device is an effective first step.

  • Taking breaks. Unfortunately, not all of us have the luxury of putting our screens down for good when we feel some eye strain coming on. Many individuals work from their computers or phones, making blue light a constant throughout the day. Incorporating occasional breaks when exposed to blue light can help. This can be as simple as looking away from the screen for a few seconds or minutes to let your eyes relax. The 20-20-20 Rule: take a break every 20 minutes by viewing something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds.

  • Customizing your screen settings. Adjust settings on devices such that the brightness and contrast are minimized (3).

How to avoid too much eye strain?

Limiting your exposure to blue light is the most effective way to mitigate eye strain. However, there are several other preventative measures you can take to minimize eye strain.

Here are some tips to help avoid eye strain:

  1. Avoid harsh lighting. Eye strain can come from light sources other than just blue light. Decreasing the intensity of lighting will provide eye relief.

  2. Use artificial tears. Preservative-free artificial tears are available without a prescription and help soothe dry eyes.

  3. Utilize eyewear. Contact lenses and eyeglasses can help mitigate the effects of Digital Eye Strain.

  4. Blink frequently. When we are staring at our screens, we tend to forget to blink as often as we should. Blinking more often can help moisturize your eyes, preventing dry eyes (3).  Blinking exercises have been shown to increase moisture on the surface of the eyes.

  5. Take supplements. Incorporate natural remedies that minimize eye strain due to blue light and contribute to overall wellness.  One such supplement is Eyemuse.

What supplements can help protect your eyes from blue light damage and eye strain?

Eyemuse is a probiotic supplement that uses the bacterial strain Lacticaseibacillus paracasei or KW3110 to support eye health.*

The benefits of Eyemuse may extend to conditions as simple as eye strain and eye fatigue, and has been clinically tested in humans.* Experts tested Eyemuse’s utility in these conditions in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study in 88 people over the course of eight weeks. At the conclusion of the study, researchers found that Eyemuse reduced eye fatigue (5).*

In addition to Eyemuse, Lutemax 2020 is a patented and clinically tested ingredient that may further prevent eye strain and blue light damage.* Lutemax 2020 contains two ingredients known as lutein and zeaxanthin, both in a highly bioavailable form.  That’s why we like to call Lutemax 2020 a natural blue light filter.  Together, these substances work synergistically to provide anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects (6,7), further protecting the eyes.*

Where can you buy supplements with Eyemuse and Lutemax 2020?

If you’re struggling with eye strain or just want to preventatively protect against blue light damage, consider opting for Eyemuse and Lutemax 2020. Lacticaseibacillus paracasei is a science-backed powerhouse ingredient that may effectively promote the health and wellness of your eyes.* While lutein and zeaxanthin may help support general eye health and wellness.*
