Getting plastic surgery may be a process of beautifying oneself, but maintaining a diet while recovering from plastic surgery is just as vital. Preparing for any surgical procedure is essential and requires finding the perfect surgeon and taking pre and post-health precautions to ensure a smooth surgery and recovery.

This article will walk you through what to eat after plastic surgery and why it’s essential to do so.

What to Eat After Plastic Surgery

Medical physicians that deal with hundreds of plastic surgeries a year will advise that a patient start cutting off certain foods and even substances such as alcohol and some vitamins. This is partly to minimize bleeding while undergoing surgery and prevent any slow recovery process. Since plastic surgery can be done throughout many parts of the human body, we’ll cover what to eat as a whole.

More water - Staying hydrated before your plastic surgery procedure will help to get optimal results. Your plastic surgeon or individual during the consultation most likely instructed you with exact requirements for your procedure. Stay away from processed carbohydrates such as any type of unhealthy bread, pasta, rice, cereal, or any other foods with high carbs. Instead, stick to consuming more whole grains and other foods, which contain high amounts of fiber. Avoid processed and refined foods at all costs.

A good rule of thumb is to drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water. It is essential to drink enough fluids each day to help your body function as efficiently as possible. The body will already be fighting hard to cure and recover. The last thing you want is to dehydrate your body while undergoing surgery.

Vegetables and fruits - Darky leafy greens are the best and most recommended for a diet after surgery. Spinach, kale, arugula, and others are among the many types of dark leafy greens one should consume. Fruits such as berries rich in antioxidants and Pineapple contain an enzyme called Bromelain, which has been proven to reduce swelling in the body.  Also, fruits like tomatoes, strawberries, blueberries, cherries, and oranges have anti-inflammatory properties that will aid in healing after surgery.

After plastic surgery, consuming vitamin-rich foods is as important as eliminating foods with high levels of salt from your diet. Sodium-rich foods will cause fluid retention and make swelling of affected areas take longer to heal. To allow your body to recover quickly, avoid any high sodium snacks and meals at all costs. The same can be said for sugar. Sugar or any foods high in carbohydrates will suppress immune function in promoting inflammation.

Supplements - Supplements are a dime a dozen. Often you can find several bottles of the same product repackaged by different manufacturers at the same store. As a patient soon to get plastic surgery, you should only be purchasing all-natural, high-potency supplements that have been clinically proven to improve your condition’s recovery. Many supplements contain vitamins that are very important to a speedy recovery, such as vitamin C, vitamin D, B-complex, and zinc are beneficial.

Other supplements that you can take that have been shown to improve recovery during plastic surgery, breast augmentation, and other surgeries; are wound healing supplements. Supplements that can help quickly repair nasty scars should be on the top of the list for consumption.

As mentioned before, whatever you do, stay away from the intake of too much sodium and any supplements that can hinder a full recovery. Among many supplements that should be avoided are vitamin E, Aspirin, Motrin, Advil, and other blood thinners. You should also avoid taking dieting pills or herbs such as green tea during your recovery.

It’s been said that your body will need as much as 5x more nutrients than the body usually would need to prevent infections and help speed up healing.
